Beautiful Bangladesh
Beautiful creations, beautiful diversity and beautiful colours of life
Bangladesh will be forty years old in 2011. In 1971 a new country was born on the eastern side of India, after a bloody Liberation War that lasted nine months. Since independence the people of Bangladesh made significant strides even though facing many barriers and challenges.
Many people and groups within Bangladesh and abroad will observe the forty years anniversary in many different ways. The 40th years’ celebration will be bigger, involve more people and have a greater significance than previous anniversaries. This is because the number 40 in relation to time has special meanings in many cultures and traditions, including Bangladesh.
I am planning to make my own contribution to the special anniversary year during 2011 by delivering a unique exhibition called Beautiful Bangladesh. As I live in London the project will primarily involve the UK although through the website and the wider media I hope to reach a world-wide audience.
One of the main elements of the struggles of the people of Bangladesh for freedom was for cultural emancipation and the right to practice and develop one’s own culture. My project will involve travelling to a number of places in the country to discover and photograph beautiful things. I will seek out, photograph and record valuable information on beautiful landscapes; beautiful creations; beautiful diversity and beautiful colours of life.
I will develop an amazingly beautiful exhibition on Bangladesh to celebrate the forty years of the country’s independence in 2011. It will be launched in London on Bangladesh Independence Day, 26 March 2011. Subsequently, the exhibition will be taken on a tour of nine places within the UK until the Victory Day, 16 December 2011.
